I Prefer Cats to Dogs

I prefer cats to dogs because there are no police cats, a book character remarked (Ramon Diaz Eterovic Simeon: Los siete hios de Simenon). Based on this comment a painting of Parisian women wearing cat masks originated (a photograph published in teh Vienese edition od Der Stern in 1956). It was followed by a canvas which, apart from the masked young women, contained the above comment and opened up a path for a film The Small Kitten and the Lion.

It is a short story involving an angry driver, a lion, a lioness, a dreaming artist and his pet with yellow fur and yellow eyes. A dream message says that the artist is safe from attack – of the angry driver and the wild beast – as long as the little yellow kitten is siting beside him.

The short film is, in essence, dealing with a pattern which, in the most economical way, would bring together two stories – a general one about a pet, and the another about a dream. The synergy of two views, one on the canvas and another on the film screen, suggest a very important fact.
